When we live in a world of Instagram, it’s tough not to get caught up in a whirlwind of endless selfies and photo sessions. But instead of groaning and grumbling at the thought, we’re imparting some camera-conquering wisdom straight from our Victoria’s Secret angel and international supermodel, Alessandra Ambrosio, that will help you take the most flattering ones ever. Follow these simple rules below to looking gorgeous (and natural!) every single time.

Play with Angles: Knowing your body and which angles are best for you is key to taking flattering photos. Facing the camera straight on is rarely flattering, so keep in a mind a slight twist is best. Plus, the camera should be at least eye level—if not higher—when taking photos.
Loose vs. Fitted Clothes: Find the most flattering position for your clothes. Loosely fitted pieces, though great in person, often don’t translate well in photos. Try sitting to give your body some sort of shape. Fitted clothes automatically make you look slimmer.
Keep Your Head Up: Chin up, buttercup! Keep your head up and try elongating your neck to help minimize any dreaded double chin situations. Keep the pout in mind, too, for whenever you want to create more defined facial structures and higher cheekbones.

Your Smile: This is tricky since everyone has a different kind of smile that works best for them, but most importantly, the best smile is always an authentic one, so think of something or someone who makes you smile when posing for a photo.
Lighting: Last but not least, the more light, the better, and natural light is always the best. Wherever you can find some light, whether it’s a window, a doorway, or a bathroom mirror— go towards it. Keep the light in front of you, not to the side, which results in unfortunate shadows on your face.
