Traveling is fun and all, but those long flights, sleepless nights, and early mornings will take a toll on your body over time. Not only does traveling completely throw your usual routine off, but it also forces us to adjust to new time zones, cuisines, and cultures — Oh my!
Although our Victoria’s Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio is no stranger to traveling, she always preps her body prior to traveling to ensure she stays as healthy as possible. Whether she is jet setting to a new photo shoot location or taking a personal trip to Brazil with her trusty Rimowa suitcases, Ale knows how to stay healthy while traveling, and here’s how she does it:
Sleep isn’t for the weak!
With changing time zones and jet lag, sleep can become a serious challenge. Try and plan out your day so you’re allowing at least 6-8 hours of sleep, even if it doesn’t exactly correspond to the time zone. No one likes a grumpy traveler!
Work it.
No matter where you are, you are bound to find a gym nearby (or in your hotel!) If not, you can always explore the streets! Plan ahead and pack a few gym outfits you can re-wear throughout the course of your trip. Although you don’t need to workout as intensely as you would at home, a little exercise can go a long way while traveling!
Healthy Eating
It’s no easy task to eat healthy while you’re on vacation! Instead of sacrificing delicious cuisines for healthier options, try and have one healthy meal a day. That way, you’ll get to experience the culture’s unique food without feeling too unhealthy!
Maximize Hydration
Water, water, water! Although you should constantly drink water no matter your location, it is important to load up on the H2O while traveling. Traveling = dehydration, and dehydration isn’t good for your body!
Walk, don’t hitch a ride.
Getting your steps in each day keeps the doctor away! It’s easy to opt for public transportation when you want to get somewhere, but walking only takes a few extra minutes and will allow for you to explore! Just don’t forget those sneakers!
